Hydenlyne are currently recruiting Marine Mammal Observers (MMO)/Protected Species Observers (PSO) to work on board research vessels during various projects with rotation of 4-6 weeks (project dependent).


  • Maintain visual watches for the presence of species of concern and implement mitigation measures as per project's requirements
  • Record sightings and complete sightings’ log as well as sightings' report if necessary
  • Complete excel effort and operations' log when on duty
  • Provide daily, weekly and end of project reports
  • Provide information to all parties regarding compliance with project and regional regulations.


  • Degree or research experience in marine biology, oceanography, environmental sciences, earth sciences or similar
  • MMO/PSO Training Certificate
  • Strong decisive skills
  • Knowledge and ability to identify marine mammal and sea turtle species
  • Minimum 8 weeks experience working as an MMO/PSO
  • Positive attitude and ability to work in multicultural and multinational environment
  • Knowledge of various mitigation guidelines and ability to appropriately apply mitigation measures
  • Ability to work individually as well as a part of a larger team.
